Modelling linear wave transformation induced by dissipative structures—Regular waves

چکیده
A numerical model of the modified time-independent mild-slope equation for linear waves over a rapidly changing finite porous bed is presented. In this solution the reflection and phase coefficient shift are solved implicitly. Boundaries are assumed to be open, partially reflecting, or fully absorbing through the second-order parabolic approximation. Discretisation of the governing equation and boundary conditions is by means of a second-order accurate central difference scheme. The resulting sparse-banded matrix is solved using an inexpensive banded solver with Gaussian elimination. The model has been validated and the numerical predictions are in excellent agreement with analytical solutions. r 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Hydrodynamic Modelling of Coral Reefs:Ningaloo Reef-Western Australia
As with all coral reef systems, the ecology of Ningaloo Reef is closely linked to water circulation which transport and disperse key material such as nutrients and larvae. Circulation on coral reefs may be driven by a number of forcing mechanisms including waves, tides, wind, and buoyancy effects. Surface waves interacting with reefs have long been known to dominate the currents on many coral r...
متن کاملFeeding and dissipative waves in fracture and phase transition I. Some 1D structures and a square-cell lattice
In the lattice structure considered here, crack propagation is caused by feeding waves, carrying energy to the crack front, and accompanied by dissipative waves carrying a part of this energy away from the front (the di4erence is spent on the bond disintegration). The feeding waves di4er by their wavenumber. A zero feeding wavenumber corresponds to a macrolevel-associated solution with the clas...

In this study, Mazandaran province's coasts have been classified by using Relative Tide Range, and hydrodynamic models. For this, investigations of waves hydrodynamics, measurement of bed morphology's profiles and sediment characteristics along surfzone, and analyzing of hydrographic maps at 7 stations in east (Neka, Larim and Babolsar), middle (Mahmudabad and Kohnesara) and west pa...
متن کاملPattern formation in active oscillatory media and its relation to associative memory networks
We continue to study the arrays of nonlinear coupled oscillators. The networks of associative memory based on limit-cycle oscillators connected via complex-valued Hermitian matrices were previously designed. Another class of networks consisting of locally connected nonlinear oscillators, closely related to so-called cellular neural networks, is the subject of study in the present paper. In spat...
متن کاملOn the validity of nonlinear Alfvén resonance in space plasmas
Aims. In the approximation of linear dissipative magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) it can be shown that driven MHD waves in magnetic plasmas with high Reynolds number exhibit a near resonant behaviour if the frequency of the wave becomes equal to the local Alfvén (or slow) frequency of a magnetic surface. This near resonant behaviour is confined to a thin region, known as the dissipative layer, which ...
